The first time I received the assessment notification, I feel a bit shocked because it said that we should make five academic writing. But I also feel challenge and excited as I think I will learn something new and valuable from this assessment.
And I was right! I have learned and enhance my knowledge so much from this assessment. I improved my writing (with more use of academic vocabulary) and language features usage. I think this assessment is average but we should do this in step by step. If we do it 1 week before the due date, surely, we will feel depressed. I have done this assessment two weeks after the assessment notification is handed and still, it takes long time to finalize it. I choose Wikipedia as my topic because nowadays people around the world prefer to us online dictionary better rather than hard-bound dictionary as it is more efficient and personally, it also helps me so much in doing researches.
Despite from my improvement in writing skills, I also learn how to use Wikipedia in a right way so it becomes more valuable and trustworthy. what's more this portfolio inspire me how to be more careful in doing researches as not all information from the internet is reliable. The essay that I proud the most is the compare and contrast complete essay since I have collected 2 drafts and the second draft has a good respond.
Overall, I proud I have finished this assessment on time and I hope I get grades that I earn from my hard work. Although I realized that I still have weaknesses, especially in grammars and sentence structure, I strongly believe that I could improve my writing skills more and more as time pass by. I won’t hesitate to learn new experiences as well.

Now I Know
On 13th May 2009, the third assessment notification was distributed. I’m always afraid of assessments. Because assessments are difficult and greatly influence the report grades. This time, we were asked to create a portfolio of academic writing on technology or technological issue. I was excited because the topic is about technology, where we’re living in a world of technology by now.
I chose Nintendo Wii as the topic for my portfolio. For compare and contrast, I used Wii and PlayStation 3. When I started to do a research and plan on my portfolio, I began to complain and get lazy because I found it not easy. But as time goes by, as I understand and forced myself to do the task, then I realized how fun it could be. By doing research, then I know that Wii has online connectivity, backward compatibility, etc. It was like miracle. I never knew about it until today. Thank God for this assessment task that I could do something new with my Wii console that I have at home.
I am really happy though with my works, even though it’s not perfect. But I’m giving my best for it. The hardest tasks for me are the reaction partial essay. The reaction partial essay is kind of hard, because there’s no example of it. But I am satisfied with my complete essay. Because that was the first assignment to be done and I submitted three drafts to be checked. So, I feel confident with my complete essay.

"The Most" Assessment
What a tiring assessment! Throughout all English assessments that I’ve encountered in year 11, this is the most tiring, the most time consuming, the most problems with it, and even the most procrastinated assessment.
This assessment is a bunch of huge terrors for me. The started with the assessment notification. There is no assessment notification that terrrify me so much like this one did. I couldn’t imagine how am I going to finish five pieces of academic writing on time with a good quality. This is a new thing for me because I’ve never completed five pieces of academic writing in three weeks. One other major problem that makes this assessment even harder to complete is that I had to be absent from school for 6 days due to some trainings for computer competition and I missed 10 periods of English class. That means I lost 6 hours and 40 minutes of English class which I could spend some parts of my assessment. So, I should spend more time at home to complete this assessment.
Even though this assessment is the hardest one, I realize that it is the most useful one. I know that academic writing is very important for my academic career, as I am going to write lots of writings in university and at work too. I learned that academic writing isn’t just all about essays, but there are a lot of types of academic writing. I also learn that an effective thesis statement is the key to a good academic writing. Moreover, I learn specifically about my technological issue which is hybrid cars. I learn that hybrid cars indeed reduce the greenhouse gases emissions. I also learn that nowadays, car producers are not competing in producing conventional cars, hybrid cars otherwise.

In this assessment task I was surprised from how much work that we have to do. Luckily we we’re given time to work on it in the class by the computer lab. Well in the end it really helps me, in a way I think our teacher deliberately did this so our assessment task could be done without interfering with other subjects. I could not imagine how much after school work I have to do, if there were no class time given.
I learn mostly on how reading it out loud really helps me to find grammar mistakes on my writing piece, and besides that I actually learn how to write a clear references and how to do a footnote. I also learn about Thesis and making an outline to keep me more organize.
I’m proud of all the work I have done. It always felt good after finishing a whole lot of work. When you first look at it and you’ll think that you never make it. In the end you actually did it and felt very proud and that was how I felt.
I know that I could improve in my grammar and besides that to keep focus on a subject. Every time I write I could suddenly jump to another subject and another and at the end it came out as an entirely different topic. Of course there are other things I like to improve like how I manage my time, if I did better at managing my time I wouldn’t have to work up too my last minute.
I have failed on keeping myself organize and focus to my work and I have failed on using my class time more affectively. However I have succeeded by doing my work and to finish it in time also by creating drafts, because they really help on finding your mistake and learning from it.

End of a week long suffering...
This assessment task really exhaust me. Miss Laura and Miss Karla ask the whole year 11 to make a portfolio which consists of 5 pieces of academic writing. From the first piece that I start on, I got no ideas, no inspirations. It was a difficult start. Fortunately, as the D-Day gets nearer, I start to force myself even harder. Even though all the pieces are finished on time, I still regret not using my time wisely. If I had started earlier, I would be able to submit more drafts and correct more mistakes that I may have made.
My topic is about computer viruses and worms. I must admit, by doing this assessment, I gained more knowledge about computer viruses and how to handle them. I found a lot of useful informations that I can directly apply in my life.
From this assessment task, I had been able to learn a lot more about academic writing. There are many new things that I had learned such as citing sources, using formal language and using thesis statements and topic sentences. I know that these things will be useful in the future.
In the end, I would like to say thanks to both of my english teachers, Miss Laura and Miss Karla. Even though this assessment task that they gave me was like a never ending torture, I know that I have learnt many new useful things.

My suffering tale
This is the hardest unit I ever done. The tasks are too much and too big to handle in one week time. One day before the deadline, I spent the whole 10 hours sitting in front my computer doing the ‘Godzilla’ tasks. I still need to study for the coming up math extension 1 test and it is the hardest moment of this unit study. I feel like my eyes going to ‘popped-out’ soon if I don’t take a rest. But still I forced myself sitting on the 'nearly burned' chair of mine to complete the tasks. Finally I complete them and it feels so good.
After the long struggles I realize that I have learned many things from the unit. First thing was that there are whole bunch types of essay. The most important thing I learned among this type of essay was the partial essay. Partial essay looks short and easy but after I try to write one, I realize, I don’t have any idea how to start it. But with the help of Miss Laura’s example I could do it. New topic, new challenge!
Academic writing is a new topic that I learned in this year 11 English subject. When I got an assessment notification from my teachers, Mrs. Laura and Mrs. Karla, it surprised me a lot. The assessment notification acquired us to make 4 different types of essay structure, 5 different types of language feature with 1 topic of our own choice. The types of essay structure are complete essay, partial essay, visual essay, and a blog. The language features are compare & contrast, persuasive, reflection, opinion/reaction, and research.
The topic that I chose for this assessment task is about GPS. GPS is one of important technologies in this modern life. It has a lot of advantages like protecting our car, give specific direction to a destination that we chose such as restaurants or gas stations. GPS has a big impact to the societies in changing direction from using paper maps. GPS also has some disadvantages like it is expensive and hard to be installed in the vehicles.
To be honest, I feel that the hardest challenge for me is to make a compare&contrast complete essay. Making a complete essay is not as easy as I thought before. I decided to compare and contrast the advantages between GPS and a paper map. After I made some drafts and turned it into my teachers, I found that I made a lot of mistakes, especially in my grammars and paragraph structure. I tried to fix the mistakes and improve my essay by asking my teachers and my friends for some opinions. It was really helpful for me, and finally my essay became better either in grammar or the structure.
Otherwise, the best piece that I am most proud of is a persuasive visual/multimedia essay. I made an advertisement about GPS and I included some best GPS applications in that advertisement to persuade the readers. This visual essay is the best piece for me because I made it by handmade and with the best ingredients that I bought from a book store. This type of essay made me learned how to persuade readers so that they can trust with what I said and think with the same point of view like mine.

My Reflection
Today, I just completed writing my third English project. For this task, I have to create a portfolio consist of 5 different types of academic writing samples. The topic of my assignment is about technology and I have chosen development of cameras as my specific theme. I learn so many valuable lessons in every single of my English tasks and I want to share my precious lessons about this topic.
As my teacher has told me in the class that in this task we have to construct essays, I became worry a lot about it. I used to dislike making essays because basically it is difficult for me. I have so many troubles when it comes to creating excellent essays. I have to put so much effort to get an idea for my paper. Sometimes I have difficulty to accomplish the minimum requirement of words for my essays.
But as I was in the process of it, I feel better and better. My teachers were guiding me to produce great essays. They provide examples of good essay structures. They notify me word choices in the essay that we have to concern about. Furthermore, they give us grammar exercises and structures to prevent grammar mistakes in the essay.
At the end, I must say that I’m proud with my essays because actually I can produce good ones. The most satisfying one is my persuasive complete essay. It occurs because I can express it so well without difficulties. In fact I can easily get my idea because there are so many things to say about technology.
In the future, I will improve several matters. The most important is I want to improve my grammars. In addition, I want to expand my vocabularies and create better essay structure.
17 Hours Before D-Day...
There’s only one word that could describe this assessment. Hard! The reason for me to say it was hard because the time was so limited and I have a lot of problems on doing this. I don’t know why, but every time I want to work on my assessment, there are always problem. There are 3 or 4 classes where there was a problem with the school’s internet, so I couldn’t do my work in class. I also get problem on the last day, where my printer didn’t work so I need to use my dad’s office to print. I also need to do some other works for other subject during this 3 weeks period. I was exhausted! I felt like I never have time to rest.
Finally, this day come where I’ve finished my portfolio. I was very happy because at that time, I thought that I couldn’t finish my work. This is my proof that I can do what my peers can also do. Now, I was very happy knowing that actually, I’ve learnt a lot on this assessment. I know how to write better using a more formal written language, fixing my grammar, citing, and how to use footnotes. I hope that I could improve more every day. Many thanks to our English teachers that have taught us a lot with patience, although you all get mad sometimes, but I’m sure it was worth every energy you spent.

Technology, something that we see everyday, something that usually spend unnoticed. But on this assignment we are to analyze technology. The part where i enjoyed most for this assignment is the visual and multimedia. My head usually were cramped with ideas and design, that's why i'm excited to know that i could express my ideas and design on this assignment, that turn out nice, my magazine earns some "oooh" and "aahh" from my friend, even Miss Karla (this time i don't spell your name wrong) said she likes it, when i turn it in as a draft. Some part of the assessment that i dislike is the partial essay one, the extensive research needed just exhaust me.

Writing assignments are like torture! but it helps a lot,,,
In this third assessment, I have tried my very best to work on the topic I chose which are about viruses and worms. It is hard to do this third assessment as we were asked to make 5 pieces of texts which will need a good ability to write to achieve an outstanding grade.
I must admit that writing has always been a challenge for me as I do not like to write and this habit has made it harder for me to achieve excellent grades in my writing assignments.
This assessment has allowed me to learn many new things about the topic that I chose which initially I did not know about. And through this assessment I can improve my writing skill as well.
I am proud with my friends’ and my own efforts to do these assessment tasks and I hope the teachers may grade it fairly and does not grade with their moods.
I still need to work on my grammar and my vocabulary range though. By doing a lot of writings and readings, I believe I can improve what I still need to work on. Though I have some bad habits, I am optimized that I can change them and in the end, I will get maximum scores in my report card.

Good Experience in Assessment Task 3.....
The first time I heard that there would be an assessment task again and a notification would be given, I felt very shocked because the assessment task 2 just over. This assessment task 3 that will be collected before the holiday. One thing that makes me more surprised is that the assessment task 3 will be about the academic writing and I have to write five pieces of academic writing. The difficult part is that I have is I have to write many essays in academic writing with good grammar and structures and I know that I’m not really good at.
However, I realize that I have to force myself and to start doing the task so that I can improve my English more and more. The first difficulty I have found is I have to think for a topic that I will use for my five pieces of academic writing. After I have found the topic, I still have some difficulties to write an essay with good paragraph, grammar, vocabularies and structure. But by learning from mistakes, I will learn to write a good essay. While I am doing this task, I just realize that it’s interesting to write essays and it makes me want to learn more and more to write good essays. Besides learning how to write a good essay, I also learn many things about my topic which this time is ipod. Now, I can understand better that ipod is a very handy portable media player that helps us more easily to listen to the music with its many features.

Need more time
At the time when I got the third English Assessment’s notification, I was very surprised and shocked. It is written that I’ve to make 5 pieces of portfolio with different types of academic writing. Since I’m having trouble in writing a good essay, I felt depressed. Moreover, when my biology teacher informed me that I’d be absent every Wednesday to Friday in last 2 weeks for the training of Biology Olympiad, I felt more depressed. I almost gave up at that time, but then I take them as challenges for me.
My topic is about Nokia Nseries mobile phone. I’ve learned a lot when I searched about this topic. During the last two years, I use Nokia N73, but I didn’t know how to use some features in it. In this assessment, I learned how to use that features. I also learned how to make a good essay by using more sophisticated words and organizing the ideas.

A First Time for Everything
What a bombshell! Today, I just got a shocking, yet interesting experience that I honestly never thought I would do in a million years. It was not anything illegal, bad, or even downright juvenile! What I did was writing a blog that my teachers, Miss Laura and Mrs. Karla, asked me to do. They asked me to write a blog about an academic writing with specific technological issues as a topic. I chose Medical Technology issue as my topic. I feel excited and proud about this.
The academic writing, that I have done, involved writing comparison/ contrast, researches, persuasive thoughts/ information, reaction/opinion and reflection. Out of all those, I would say that doing many researches is the most important thing in making a good academic writing. Nevertheless, by doing those activities, it has helped me to get better understanding about the topic of my choice, which is "Medical Technology Issue".
The piece of writing that I most proud of is my Persuasive Visual/Multimedia Text. The reason is, I think it’s so cool to persuade your readers that you have to say is relevant and important. Moreover, I am very interested in persuade others learning about medicine and the technology used to detect and treat diseases. Besides, I also like doing research about medical advancements in the medical world. From researching for those technologies, I can conclude that a critical part to changing health care is providing people with the right information about diseases so that they may prevent diseases before the diseases develop. Quite Extraordinary
The last three weeks have been weeks full of researching, gathering and gaining new and sophisticated knowledge for me. To be honest, it has been a hell of a week because I have to finish five challenging things for my portfolio and surely I have an ambition to deliver it excellently with my best effort, which maybe brings a heavy burden and pressure to myself. Well, it becomes a boomerang for me, whether I like it or not. But surely, it has been a fun yet challenging experience time for me. This task has given me huge information and a bunch of good knowledge of Blackberry Bold’s features and its specifications benefits and how it becomes weak when it against the principle of face to face communications or human interactions. I know that Blackberry is a communication device that is offering a lot of great deal of multimedia interactions, working and office utilities support, and also a social networking device “on the go”.
The way it presents itself has impacted and changed the way people communicate to each other. Nowadays, everybody is using BB and therefore, it has established itself to become a lifestyle of luxury and prestige in our cosmopolitan life.

A Fun and Complicated Lesson
What is the most complicated subject for 11 grade students at IICS in 2009? For me, it’s English because I have to make a portfolio with a full essay, two partial essays, a multimedia text, and a blog. This assessment task three really reduces my playing time! But, thanks to Ms. Laura and Mrs. Karla for helping year 11 students to do this task and check every single piece of our text which are very long and have many mistakes.
In this lesson, I learned how to make a formal essay and how to make a good essay which will help me in the university. I also learned to avoid plagiarism by citing everything that I take from other’s work. From this task, I realized that I have to be more concentrate in making essays to not make many mistakes in grammar, punctuation, organization, etc. I know that I am bad in grammar and tenses, but my teachers help me to fix that. And now, my language is better. It was a new experience for me and it’s exciting to learn new things.
For my assessment topic, I chose iPod touch and iPhone which are the newest devices made for music. By the research of those two electronic devices, I know that technologies for music are very fast. Now, people can listen to music everywhere and every time only by having and iPod or iPhone. Both of the devices are also efficient, they can keep files (such as photos and pictures), phoning (for iPhone), and play games.
In conclusion, I’m glad to do this task because I could know devices which I don’t have and to learn to make some good essays. This essay making task gives a lot of experience to me and help me to develop my English.

Academic writing helps me improve my english
When I got the notification for this third assessment about academic writing, i thought that five piece is very easy because we have one month to do all of them. And I only need to make two partial essay, a visual text and complete essay. But when I started to do the research piece, I realized that this assessment task won't be easy. From this assessment I have learn that writing is not something that can be done easily, it needs time and effort to improve it. Writing is not something we can do only in one night and even if we can do that, I'm not sure whether the writing is good or not.
Through this assessment, I was be able to know more about my topic, Technology in class. I know the reasons why teachers banned or allow student to use any electronic devices. And through this assessment I can practice my writing skills, because I am allowed to submit drafts, that show me where do I have to improve my writings. In the last two weeks I feel that I have improved my writing skills by submitting drafts. I've learn that I shouldn't think that an essessment is something that can be done in a short period of time. I have learnt so many things and all thanks to both Mrs. Karla and Ms. Laura as my english teacher.
Beyond the Beyond
It feels kind of awkward to post this since this blog is created as an assignment, which I never heard before, honestly.
I believe each one of us must have gotten used with the technology around us, ever since we’re born and splats out from our mother’s womb, we can already see machines and tools everywhere in the surgery room, and then we’re thrown into the incubator, wicked!.
Then we grow up, once again, surrounded by technology, anywhere I went and do, it always involve technology, traveling by car, entertainments, INTERNET. Everything just happened and before I realize it, I can’t differentiate anymore whether we’re the one who are using the technology, or is it the technology which is using us? Because it seems from how I look to the current situation, I can’t imagine if humans can live without technology.
And now, here I am, given a task to talk about technology. The point of this assignment is to learn about academic writing, but I see more than that, for something as phenomenal as technology, it is like talking about a huge, wide universe that seems boundless to be described by words.
Luckily, I am given choices of what topic that I want to choose, so at least I’m not gonna talk about technology as a whole, and in this case, I choose video gaming.
Exploring even only one area of a huge universe still startled me though, I found some unbelievable truth about video gaming itself, that I myself as a veteran gamer haven’t realize it until now. One thing that most surprise me is that video gaming has taken people’s life. There are many cases throughout the world about game addiction, parents leaving their baby-child at home to play World of Warcraft at an internet café, and going home to find out their baby has died, or a person who plays 2 days non-stop and died on his chair right at the spot.
If only one area has caused such a huge impact worldwide, what about the others?
This is ironic, truly ironic, eventually, it all come back to the question of whether we who are using the technology or the opposite?
Exploring these through an academic writing was an interesting experience for me, I have learned many hidden truths that I didn’t know. I suppose I should say thank you to our English teachers, Miss Laura and Miss Karla. And to fellow students, I hope all of you could find your own insight of the topic that you choose. The most impressive assessment
Few weeks after the second assessment, I was shocked that my third assessment is coming soon. At first I was so glad, that I can choose my own topic, according to my favorite one. When Ms. Laura told us, that I should make five pieces of text, I am so amazed, as it is so hard to complete all that in one month. When the assessment notification was distributed, I was speechless, but I have no choice. On that day, I immediately choose handphone as my topic.
In this assessment, I feel that I do not have enough time to complete all the pieces. It was so hard to find sources from internet, as some of them are unreliable and the informations provided are limited. Before I made it, I did not think that it will be this hard.
Beside all the problems that I faced, this assessment gives some advantages for me too. From the research I had made, I could know the informations which I have never heard before. Great Experience
Moving through y11, this third assessment is the most tiring for me up to this point. Something New That I've Learnt in English Assessment
Something that challenged me in making this assessment was to make an essay in difference form, partial essay. In making partial essay, we have to make the outline first before we make the partial essay. I also learnt so many things in making this assessment. Now, I know about the differences between Google Knoll and Wikipedia. Beside the differences, there is also similar thing between these two websites.
I proud because I could finish this assessment, even though I don’t know my score on this assessment. At least I could finish in making two partial essays, one complete essay, one multimedia text and the last thing, I learnt how to post a blog. The most proud thing that I did was posting a blog. I’ve never post a blog before, but now, I know how to post a blog and also make our own blog. I think it is a great thing.
Something that I can improve next time is my grammar and vocabularies. I think my grammar and vocabularies aren’t good enough. I need this kind of work again, because I have to write again and over again.

The Greatest Experience Ever In My Life
First of all, when I received the third assessment task, I surprise about every single words in that paper. I thought “can I do these entire tasks very well”, because I realize that my academic writing skill is terrible. Everything change when Ms. Laura distributed “Editing Cover Sheet”. I notice that I still have some chance to show my work to Mrs. Carla and Ms. Laura before this assessment submitted.
In this assignment, I have learned many thing. In my point of view, the greatest changing is my knowledge in grammar. In the beginning, I have poor grammar. And I try to fix every single mistake that I can found in every task. Then I learned what my mistakes that I am not understand.

Struggling for Essay
While learning about academic writing, I realize the fact that a piece of essay is really complicated. In order to get a better piece, I need to think for word choice, structure, and grammar. Without proper planning for the essay , there won’t any good essay.
Actually, in this assessment, I tried to make an essay without any proper planning before. Unexpectedly, there are so many mistakes including wordy and confusing structure in it, so I decided to remake the structure and do planning for my essay. Luckily, I am able to practice it from making the outline for partial essay. After I compare between my last essay and the new essay, I am able to make better structure and I can add more detail. Indeed, without proper planning, I won’t be able to improve that. I think I’m more confident for the essay than before.
Moreover my topic is video games. It’s a topic where I could enjoy in listening about it or talking about it. Of course I choose because I play it most of the time. When I do some research about my topic, I am surprised that video games also have development not only in graphics but also in their gameplay. For example, Ateiler Iris, in order to take action, there is a time for that. Before I do some research, I know it as RPG games, but actually it is a developed system for RPG games.
I am happy to do this assignment because its success to improve my knowledge in both ways, academic and gaming. I would like to see my improvement through the essay and that won’t happen without the help of my teacher at school. Thanks to Ms.Laura and Mrs.Karla for guiding me at school also in the extra course.
